Zac Efron in Talks for ‘Star Wars’

Zac Efron is in talks to appear in Star Wars: Episode VII.
The That Awkward Moment actor has met with movie bosses about a role in the new episode of the sci-fi franchise, which has recently been acquired by Disney. When asked if he'd take a part in the movie, he told MTV, "Yeah, I just went and met with them. So I don't know. It would be cool. I love [the Star Wars movies], but... who knows?"
Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams and actors linked to roles include Michael Fassbender, Michael B. Jordan (Efron's That Awkward Moment co-star), Saoirse Ronan, Jesse Plemons, Adam Driver and Hugo Weaving.
It has also been rumored many of the actors from the original trilogy - shot in the 70s and 80s - such as Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker could reprise their roles.

Cinecast: Star Wars VII Casting, Tarantino’s New Film, Marvel’s ‘Ultimates’

+ Jesse Plemons - famous for both his role as Breaking Bad's Todd and looking a lot like a younger Philip Seymour Hoffman - is apparently being called back for Star Wars: Episode VII auditions, although Disney/Lucasfilm is keeping mum about it.
+ No one has been cast yet and it's due to begin production this summer, but because it's a Quentin Tarantino project, you can guarantee that it will be full of awesomesauce. Especially considering the name of the film is officially The Hateful Eight (for those who don't know, it's a reference to the famous 1960 western The Magnificient Seven).
+ Marvel has released details on its upcoming Ultimates project, which will apparently not feature one single white guy (yay!) - both leading male superheroes will be of a non-white background. Also more yayness: the All-New Ultimates will see FOUR female superheroes on the team.
+ Despite the meteoric success she's had starring in the Martin Scorsese black comedy The Wolf of Wall Street, Australian actress Margot Robbie says that she wants to be cast in a Quentin Tarantino film next.
Florence Welch Set for Major ‘Star Wars’ Role?

Florence Welch is being considered for a leading role in the new Star Wars trilogy.
The 26-year-old pop diva could be turned into an "overnight" movie star with reports she is being lined up for a huge part in the next installment of the long-running science fiction saga. "We think Florence has the exact style we are looking for. She has done some acting but it was her singing on stage that initially caught the eye. Almost every actress in Hollywood wants a role in the new movies but we are keen to cast people who are unexpected. Florence is being considered for a major part that would turn her into an A-list actress overnight," a source said.
The Florence + The Machine singer would star close to her London home with the recent news the series would be filmed in the UK, with shooting due to start next year.
The movie - planned for a 2015 release - is also expected to see the return of original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

The internets are abuzz with all sorts of great stuff this week. Let's take a look.
Gerry Conway is one of my favorite writers. I love his Marvel work on Spider-Man and countless others, his Atari Force for DC is an unsung gem, and, more importantly, I think his work as a writer-producer on Law & Order: Criminal Intent gave that show its best episodes. This project with him looks very interesting.
Great news. An old DC book that slipped under the radar is getting collected by Dark Horse. It’s Dan Jolley’s (and Leonard Kirk’s and Robin Riggs’) Bloodhound. Here’s a solid interview with Dan at Robot 6.

Guillermo Del Toro Says No to ‘Star Wars’

Not many people pass up the opportunity to be involved in the Star Wars franchise. Apparently, Guillermo Del Toro is one of those people.
"We got one phone call to my agent saying, 'Is Guillermo interested?' And basically I have so much stuff already of my own, and I'm pursuing stuff that I'm generating already." The Pan's Labyrinth director said that he was flatter, but that he "just a phone call, it didn't go past that."
I guess we'll just have to settle for imagining what interesting creatures and sets Del Toro would have contributed to the upcoming films. Sigh.

+ Judd Apatow becomes the third guest editor for Vanity Fair - appropriately for their first Comedy Issue. The three covers for the magazine - which comes out in December - feature a number of Apatow's regular actors, including his wife Leslie Mann, Paul Rudd, Kristin Wiig, and Will Ferrell.
+ Matt Damon has confirmed that he has been cast in George Clooney's latest directorial effort, The Monuments of Men.

Whoa.
To everyone in the Eastern US affected by Frankenstorm Sandy, my heart goes out to you. Stay safe and I hope normalcy returns as soon as possible. (And don’t forget to vote!)
Show business knew how to take away the game ball from Sandy coverage with the announcement that George Lucas was selling Lucasfilm to Disney for $4 billion (with a ‘b’). That’s just mind-boggling.
And with that news came the news that new Star Wars films will be forthcoming with Lucas not involved in their production. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, Lucas announced his charitable intentions with the $4 billion. What a week. Marvel and DC will have to stage a double-secret-reboot just to get a little press.
